What are Learnerships?
Learnerships are paraprofessional and vocational education and training programmes. They combine theory and practice and culminate in a qualification that is registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF). The emphasis of the programme is on its outcomes. The success of a learnership is whether at the end the learner can practically use the skills that s\he has been taught.
At various stages the learner is assessed to see if s\he is progressing and is able to perform the tasks for which they have been trained. Unlike some previous qualifications this assessment will have a strong practical element.

The Role of Witbank Institute of Technology
A critical success factor in the delivery of efficient training and the maintenance of continuous quality service is the overall management of the Learnership. Our project management processes provide a flexible and robust platform for maintaining unvarying standards within a dynamic environment such as training.
Our Learnerships manager will lead this project on a full-time basis, to oversee and manage the learnership. He will take responsibility for the overall contract management and will serve as the single point of contact for reporting and quality control.
Management of a learnership of this nature entails ensuring that the following aspects are adequately catered for:
Recruitment :- interviewing, shortlisting and recruiting the learners for this project. We would do this as a value added benefit to the client therefore at no charge
Training Materials :- the provision of accredited, unit standard aligned learning materials is critical to the success of the training as this forms the foundation on which all learning is based.
Facilitators :- we would ensure that accredited and relevantly qualified facilitators are involved in the facilitation of the learnership
Assessment :- there needs to be continuous assessment of the progress of learners both at our training facilities and at the workplace
Moderation :- a certain percentage of the learners will need to be moderated as required by Isett Seta to ensure that the learnership meets with their standards
Progress Meetings :- our project manager will hold weekly meetings with client to discuss the progress of the learnership and will provide weekly reports to client.
Administration :- the administration of a learnership is quite a tedious and time consuming task. Various administrative duties, site visits, ad hoc learner queries, logbooks, attendance registers, register evaluations, recruitment of learners, etc would need to be taken care of.
Assessments, Moderation, & Certification
We ensure adherence to the policy through the assessment of training material and facilitation of the learning opportunity by the trainer. Management of the assessment process starts with the appointment of qualified and registered assessors. These assessors design and develop the assessment instruments.
These instruments are aimed at measuring the achievement of the desired learning outcomes of the specific programme. They are revised on a regular basis to ensure validity and reliability.
A process of internal and external moderation further enhances the integrity of the assessment procedure
In addition we periodically analyze the performance of our instructors/ facilitators through a process of monitoring and evaluation. The trainers are constantly assessed in respect of training competencies. This ensures our trainers are constantly kept abreast and have a thorough understanding of policies, procedures, requirements and concepts. Appropriate steps are taken by the authorized persons regarding results provided to them of these assessments.
We adhere strictly to the prescribed certification procedures and requirements, as outlined and stipulated by the relevant external accreditation bodies. The authorized person ensures approved assessment procedures have been followed and verifies the accuracy of the results before authorizing the issuance of the certificates. A register is kept of all certificates issued.
Inspection and assessment against our approved Quality Management Policy and Procedure Manual is conducted with the aid of the Internal Quality Assurance. We ensure that the quality assurance officer has a thorough understanding of the policies, procedures, terminologies, concepts and regulatory bodies’ requirements referred to in the QMP Manual.
